Drape-y Spring Looks

Loving these Spring/Summer looks from Salvor. Pretty and unusual draped tops in amazing prints and colors. My mom is sporting a snazzy new cast post-wrist surgery, and these sleeveless numbers would be easy for her to get into. Also digging the totally fierce tiger scarf.

For the birds

The sun is shining, the windows are open and the birds are a-chirping. Spring has sprung here in Brooklyn, at least for the time being, although I'm a seasoned-enough New Yorker to know better than to store my hat and scarf away just yet. I've just stocked up on birdseed for our feeder since we get tons of apparently hungry (judging by how they usually decimate our stockpiles of seed) feathered friends out on the fire escape, from cardinals to bluejays to those cute little brown chickadees, so I've got birds on the brain today.

Here are a few super-cute birdie items I spotted in some favorite shops, clockwise from upper left: birdcage wall decals by PopWall, mod blue bird hook at Urban Outfitters (designed by Joy of Oh Joy!), song bird felt ornaments by anna joyce designs, and set of Partridge collage notecards from my etsy shop.

Rock and Film

The Brooklyn Museum's Who Shot Rock and Roll exhibit ends Sunday, so if you haven't been over there to check it out, do yourself a favor and make it a weekend outing. This is an excellent show, featuring work by some well-known and many unknown photographers, covering Elvis Presley, Amy Winehouse and everyone in between. My favorites (there were many) included Elton John wearing silver pants and platform boots, doing a handstand on the piano, and a trippy shot of former Pink Floyd member Syd Barrett by photographer Mick Rock (above). Other interesting tidbits on view: an overview of the album cover art by design duo Hipgnosis (who created Led Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon, among many others) and film footage of an early-80's Grace Jones performance.

We even picked up a very fun and bright Yellow Submarine (PVC-free!) shower curtain to match our retro yellow bathroom tiles. Groovy.

Etsy Faves for Friday

Rosie Music's "I think I'm in Love" print was a featured Etsy Find recently and it led me to her shop where I fell hard for the very dapper Mr. Elegant Cat, top. He is just awesome. I'm pretty sure if he was here in my studio we would have stimulating imaginary conversations about the state of the world and such.

Last Stop Before the Holidays

Last weekend, I visited the Brooklyn Lyceum Holiday Craft Market - a really good showing this year of fun housewares, art, and delicious food items. I got to meet one of my fave designers, Tara Hogan. I've been reading Tara's blog, INK+WIT, for ages so it was super to meet her in person and chat for a while.

Tara was kind enough to feature my yoga tees and prints on her blog recently, and I am now the proud owner of one of her lovely letterpress prints (below) which is now making my home office a cheerier place to work! If you haven't already checked out her blog or shop, get on over there!

A few other faves from the holiday market: (clockwise from top left) ceramics by jennifer fisher, artwork by Kristiana Parn, handmade plush toys by Zooguu, screenprinted moleskin journals by fisk and fern

Rolling it out...

Whew! Just finished packing up my shipment to White Elephant, the cutest darn boutique in Hamilton, Ontario. The store is a very cool mix of vintage and handmade items; I pretty much want to buy everything in the store and move it all into our apartment. I couldn't be more thrilled to have my stuff in their well-curated selection, especially since some of the pieces are by other artists I admire and have purchased before in shops here in Brooklyn, like dutch door press and Modern Radar (in image below).

I'm sending them a bunch of organic cotton tote bags, and a variety of notecards, including some letterpress, some gocco prints, and some based on my collages (see image below). So, if you happen to be in the area, check it out!
