
There's a really cute story in the New York Times about a lost chicken named Gertrude, above, who eventually made her way back to her home in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Ever since I was in college and had a friend with a henhouse who would regale me with his tales of "the girls", as he called them, I've been slightly envious of the proud owners of urban (and sub-urban) mini chicken coops. I particularly enjoyed this little tale, as it also illustrates how the feathered friends bring together a neighborhood known more for its grittiness than its farm-life...
