luli sanchez

I have recently become enamored with the work of textile artist Lourdes Sanchez. A fellow Brooklynite, Sanchez spent many years designing prints for the fashion industry before setting up her own shop in 2004. Her wonderful patternwork has been used for everything from pillows and rugs to handbags and swimsuits. Lots more gorgeous work on her site.

Gorgeous Wedding Photography

I have a major soft spot for destination weddings - especially since R and I tied the knot in lovely Isabela, Puerto Rico. I couldn't resist sharing these amazing photos from a picturesque ceremony in Mexico by brilliant husband-and-wife team, Michael and Anna Costa. I first came upon their work on twitter, and I highly recommend a visit to their site for any brides-to-be out there.

Good morning, 20 inches of snow!

Here are a few winter wonderland shots from Brooklyn.
I love how a healthy wallop of snowfall can even make the trash look pretty, like big piles of marshmallow fluff!

High-End Quirky

Inspired by this recent post over on Vogue.com of Laura Santa Domingo's apartment - a uniquely outfitted living room (note the giraffe's skull on the coffee table), colorful glassware collection and a hippo that turns into a bar?! I'm guessing that's a real conversation piece at cocktail parties... I'm also admiring her seemingly endless shelf space for their vintage album collection (R and I are at maximum record capacity in our current apt), paired with the diagonal striped rug.

Aidan Gray

I've been looking for some new pillows/pillow covers for our living room couch, just to switch things up a bit for the new year. Although I tend to go for really colorful, patterned accessories, as a typophile, I cannot resist these pillows by Aidan Gray - I love the textural quality on the french-vintage-inspired ones and the super graphic style of the London-transport-inspired white-on-black pillows.

Tiny Buns

What is it with me and teeny tiny bunnies this week? Let's just enjoy the Friday cuteness without over-analyzing it...
These petite handmade Snow Rabbit Cabochons by Miss Sapporo are pretty amazing in their tiny perfection.

Vintage Ephemera

R's mom is a big-time collector of all-things vintage. And while she specializes in books, she knows I have a love for various printed material. This little assortment of vintage stationery and ephemera came from her. While none of these items are specifically "Valentine's Day", they do have a campy February 14th sort of vibe to them, no?

Bunny Love

How sweet is this little guy? Made by Italian illustrator Chiara Fiorentino, he's available for sale in her etsy shop, Boule de Neige. And just in time for Valentine's Day...

Project Thirty-Three

Back in my college days, when I somehow seemed to have much more free time on my hands (or maybe it's just my memory distorting things), one of my favorite pasttimes was to spend time digging through various thrift stores and flea markets. I often ended up in the record section (after clothes and housewares, of course) flipping through old LPs and often buying based solely on groovy, visually appealing album covers. They often only cost a dollar, and made great affordable wall art.

So I was thrilled when a few different friends sent me a link to the fantastic blog, Project Thirty Three, as it speaks to this old habit of mine. The blog showcases the collection of the owner of Seattle record store, Jive Time Records. Here are a few recent gems...

NOLA meets NYC

For us NYC-area folks, Anthropologie is have an event at their Rockefeller Center store celebrating an exhibition of work by New Orleans artists. While most of us working people might not be able to attend the opening (myself included), checking out the artwork is definitely on my to-do list.

..And it's only Wednesday

I'm feeling a bit harried and just plain exhausted this week! This picture is so silly, and I could use a few laughs to get me through the rest of the week. Enjoy.

A Typophile Christmas

Design duo The Heads of State created this gorgeous 18x24 letterpress poster, inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel The Great Gatsby. The 4-color artwork is quite a feat of design and letterpress printing technique, and features some amazing vintage-style typography. This limited-edition piece (numbered edition of 300) would make an amazing present for any letterpress-lover or typophile that you love. In fact, I loved it so much I bought one for my hubby as a Christmas gift. He was equally enamored, and it's on the way to the frame shop soon!

The poster was printed by the fantastic team at Studio on Fire (the same folks who printed our wedding invitations).
You can read more about the printing at Studio on Fire's blog, Beast Pieces, right here.
